As with the Pocket Organization Guide, this is immediately done after the purchase.

Unfortunately, there are no further options to increase your pocket space storage. However, while you can only hold 40 items in your pocket, more options are available to optimize your storage elsewhere.

• You can stack your crafting items of the same type (like iron nuggets) inside your pocket storage. Hold A on an item to move it around the inventory and stack it by moving it over another item. You can free up some space by having stacks of things you need at hand.
  
• Another excellent option for storage is your house. As you play the game, you’ll get more opportunities to take loans and upgrade your house. As you do this, your home will be able to store more and more items. You can’t keep turnips and grown trees in the house, so you’ll need to find other ways to store those items.
