This feature used to be only available to those who paid to use Zoom, but it is now available to everyone starting October 2021. Here's how to turn on automatically generated captions on Zoom.
How to turn on subtitles on Zoom
Step 1: Turn on Closed Captioning in your Zoom account
To enable automatic captioning during meetings, first you need to enable the Closed captioning feature on Zoom as follows:
Advanced meeting settings on Zoom
- Go to Zoom settings (My Account > Settings) .
- In the Meeting tab, click In Meeting (Advanced) in the left bar.
- Slide the switch to the right to enable Closed captioning .
- Click Enable .
- Check Allow live transcription service to transcribe meeting automatically .
Click Save .
If you're using a commercial or team account, you'll need to ask your administrator to enable this feature.
Step 2: Turn on subtitles on Zoom when calling
You can now enable automatic captioning on Zoom calls. To do this, in one call:

- Click Live Transcript from the menu at the bottom.
- Click Enable Auto-Transcription . Subtitles will immediately appear during your call.
- To turn it off, repeat the steps above but select Disable Auto-Transcription .
In that menu, you will also see the Allow participants to request Live Transcription option . Remember to check it if you want everyone in the meeting to be anonymous when asked to turn on automatic captions.
Currently, the subtitles feature on Zoom only supports English, but the developer promises to add more languages in the future.
