Thought he only had a fever and leg pain, who expected the 4-year-old to have a terrible blood infection

Iris, a mother of two, recently shared a special story about her 4-year-old son on social media. It is worth noting that a baby's cheek infection begins with common symptoms that are easily confused by another disease.

She said that she almost lost her baby son and hopes these confidences will be of some help to parents who also have small children.

Blood infection and the confidences of the mother

On her Facebook, Iris posted all the pictures of her child's process from the manifestation of the disease to the horrifying illness of her child.

She wrote:

"Septicemia. We never heard of it before, much less thought that the disease could happen to our family until everything happened. On World Blood Infection Day, we share the story of Jarrod's six-month journey in hospital to fight cheek infections. We hope that parents will be aware of the symptoms of the disease and please feel free to share it because maybe this could save someone's life. ”

Jarrod had to go through an arduous battle for her life

The boy's symptoms at first appear to be fever and rash

On March 28, 2019, Jarrod, Iris' son, was healthy until kindergarten called to tell her that he had a fever. After being taken home, it seemed that the child's fever had subsided, so the couple Iris left the child at home.

However, 2 days later, the child returned to fever with the rashes. Parents take the baby to the doctor. They said it was just a common viral fever and then prescribed the fever reducer Panadol and the pain reliever Neurofen for the baby.

By March 31, the baby seemed to be completely cured of the fevers and rashes. Your baby can run around the house as usual. But the very next day, Jarrod said she felt pain in her leg.

The first manifestation of a cheek infection is fever and leg pain

Another doctor still concluded that it was just a viral fever

Jarrod's mother took the baby to see another doctor. But the final conclusion is that the child has a viral fever and his leg pains are caused by the fever.

By April 2, things seemed to get worse. The baby's fever and rash did not go away, in addition the baby had pain in his right leg to the point that he couldn't walk as usual. Until 5 p.m. of that day, his parents rushed to take their child to the hospital.

The baby's health is declining

Jarrod was placed in a quarantine room with a diagnosis of typhus fever and was prescribed an analgesic for 5 hours. By 10:30 p.m. that night, the boy's condition became even more troubling by vomiting and diarrhea.

" My husband notified the staff at the hospital, but it took 45 minutes for a nurse to check in ," said Iris, the boy's mother.

They measured his blood pressure, checked Jarrod's survival index, and after a while the room was packed with doctors, nurses and medical staff. They know the baby has sepsis, but where the cause is, no one can answer.

Sepsis occurs when your body's immune system starts sending chemicals that fight infection throughout the body instead of just the infection. These chemicals cause inflammation and begin to attack healthy tissues and organs. Your body no longer fights infection, it fights on its own .

An hour later, Jarrod showed signs of kidney failure. Your baby was prescribed a dialysis machine. 4am, the baby's heart weakened. A heart surgery for Jarrod was indicated urgently.

"Thank goodness I got the surgery in time," Iris wrote on her Fb.

Jarrod's predatory bacteria and illness

At 7:00 a.m. on April 3, Jarrod's health was still not improving even though the boy was supported by all kinds of machines. 30 different drugs were prescribed for the boy. Doctors predicted that the possible cause of the baby's illness was Kawasaki .

Four days later, the doctors formally confirmed that Jarrod had contracted streptococcal group A (also known as the carnivorous bacteria).

Although he was injected with antibiotics and kidney dialysis, but on his body began to appear purple-blue patches and blisters all over the body. The baby's right leg was swollen 3 times larger than normal.

Doctors were concerned that the boy's leg was a blood infection.

"It was really hard for us when the doctors said it might be necessary to amputate one of Jarrod's legs. If the baby's feet are the cause of the infection, it should be addressed with priority. The risk is that Jarrod is too weak to undergo any major surgeries.

Two hours later, the boy's parents learned that the surgery had been going well. Doctors discovered that Strep A bacteria had entered Jarrod's blood and bones. They cut off the blood supply to the baby's legs, leading to swelling and damage to the baby's legs.

Septicemia

The boy has gradually recovered

For 24 consecutive days, Jarrod was treated in the ICU emergency recovery room and for eight consecutive days he fell into a coma. Your baby's skin is flaky and hair falls out in patches.

But luckily, the baby's health gradually recovered. The baby spent 3 months in hospital and 3 months of home treatment. In total the boy underwent 20 surgeries.

“As a mother, it hurts me to see my child's pain. The only thing I can do for him is tell him Don't give up, keep fighting baby! ”.

Jarrod is now almost normal again after going through physical therapy and acupuncture, even though one baby leg is smaller than the other.
