According to Reuters, the number of new cases per day in India increased continuously over the past 5 days, with 352,991 additional cases within 24 hours, bringing the total number of COVID-19 infections nationwide to more than 17 million people.
On the same day, India also recorded an additional 2,812 deaths from COVID-19, the highest increase since the outbreak in the country.
Currently the US, Europe and Asian countries are sending medical equipment, protective equipment, raw materials for the production of COVID-19 vaccine, ventilators and oxygen generators to India, helping the country cope with The COVID-19 "tsunami" is raging.
Experts say major causes such as poor compliance with safety regulations and highly contagious variations of the corona virus have led to a skyrocketing number of cases in India over the past few days.
Indians still participate in festivals that draw huge crowds from around the country. More than 1,000 people contracted COVID-19 in just 48 hours in Haridwar city, Uttaranchal state after the crowds attended the Kumbh Mela Festival on the banks of the Ganges River.
