How to access the settings for unlinking your phone from Windows 10 and your Microsoft account

The first step is to access the Settings in Windows 10. Click or tap the Start button and then on the Settings icon. In the Settings window look for the Phone section and click or tap on it.

The Your Phone window opens, where you see all the phones linked to Windows 10. They can be both Android smartphones and iPhones, depending on what you have. Here, you can make a choice:

• Pick the phone that you want to unlink, and disconnect it on a particular Microsoft web page, from all the Windows 10 computers associated with your Microsoft account. For this option to work, you need internet access.
• Unlink your phone from this specific Windows 10 PC. Other links between the same phone and other Windows 10 PCs and devices remain untouched.

How to unlink your phone from all your Windows 10 devices

In the Your Phone window, click or tap the link that says: "Manage all devices linked with your Microsoft account." Your default web browser opens the devices page for your Microsoft account. Sign in with the Microsoft account that you use on your PC. This page lists all the devices that you have set up with your Microsoft account. Identify the device that you want to unlink from your Microsoft account and all your Windows 10 computers.

Find your phone in the list of Microsoft account devices

Click or tap the three dots on the top-right corner of your phone's name. In the menu that opens, choose "Unlink this phone."

A window pops up, asking you to confirm your choice by checking the box "Unlink this mobile phone" and clicking Remove.

Confirm that you want to unlink your phone from your Microsoft account

You get a confirmation message saying that the phone is unlinked. Click or tap OK.

Your phone is unlinked from your Microsoft account

The phone is now unlinked from all your Windows 10 PCs, where you use the same Microsoft account, not just the one from which you started this procedure. When you return to the Your Phone window, it no longer shows the phone that you have disconnected. Please note that it may take a couple of minutes until this information reaches your Windows 10 PC.

How to remove your phone from this Windows 10 PC

The other route you can take is to unlink your PC from your phone and leave the phone connected to your Microsoft account. To do that, in the Your Phone window, click or tap on the link that says "Unlink this PC." One advantage of this approach is that you do not need an internet connection to use it.

The action is immediate, and all the phones shown by Your Phone are unlinked from this specific Windows 10 PC.

The Your phone list is now empty

You are done, and no Android phone or iPhone can connect to your Windows 10 PC.
