What are the names of carnivorous dinosaurs? Do you know what the 10 most dangerous and extinct prehistoric dinosaurs are? Let's find out together!
Few creatures are more synonymous with the word “deadly” than the dinosaur. This creature pioneered many of the traits we associate with dangerous animals today—big teeth, massive bodies, powerful jaws, and razor-sharp claws.
Many species have taken these traits to extremes, evolving into some of the most ferocious carnivorous monsters the world has ever seen and perhaps will ever see.
So what makes dinosaurs the most dangerous? Traits like massive size, powerful teeth, sharp claws, and in some cases, packs of predators. Combine these traits with specialized adaptations, and you have some of the most fearsome and dangerous dinosaurs the world has ever seen.
Whether they were carnivores or armored herbivores with deadly defenses, these dinosaurs were tough to beat. Let’s take a look at the most dangerous dinosaurs, ranked from the kings of terror to those with more defensive capabilities but still dangerous in their own right.
The most dangerous carnivorous dinosaurs in the world
1. Troodon
About 2.4m tall, weighing about 50kg, Troodon is not a huge size but they have one of the largest brain sizes in the dinosaur family. This is an omnivorous animal with a saw-like tooth structure.

Troodon was one of the most dangerous dinosaurs of prehistoric times. They ran quite fast thanks to their very long, slender hind legs and hunted in packs so that no prey could escape.
Today, Troodon fossils are found in areas such as Texas, Alaska, and New Mexico.
2. Giganotosaurus

Standing 12.2 to 12.5 meters tall and weighing between 6.5 and 13.8 tons, Giganotosaurus was one of the largest carnivores to ever live on Earth. It had a large head and strong teeth, making it easy to swallow its prey.
Giganotosaurus lived in what is now Argentina. They became extinct about 97 million years ago.
3. Sarcosuchus

Living 112 million years ago, Sarcosuchus was an ancestor of modern crocodiles but was much larger. They were about 11 - 12m long and weighed about 8 tons. Sarcosuchus even hunted dinosaurs.

Fossils of this dinosaur are commonly found in the deserts of present-day Africa.
4. Allosaurus

Allosaurus is an extremely bloodthirsty dinosaur, they attack any species, even other carnivorous dinosaurs without any purpose. With an average body length of about 8.5m and scary teeth, sharp claws, Allosaurus can tear apart any prey easily.
The Allosaurus dinosaur lived during the late Jurassic period, 155 to 145 million years ago.
6. Tyrannosaurus Rex (T.Rex)

Weighing up to 8 tons, with sharp teeth and an extremely strong bite, the T. Rex is known as the most terrifying killing machine among dinosaurs.

T. Rex lived about 65.5 million years ago, before the Cretaceous extinction.
6. Utahraptor

This is one of the largest prehistoric carnivorous birds, weighing up to 680kg. With strong teeth and sharp claws, Utahraptor can tear prey into pieces.
7. Dilophosaurus

Dilophosaurus lived 193 million years ago. Although not huge in size, they were only about 1.8m tall and weighed about half a ton, but this was the most ferocious and bloodthirsty dinosaur. Dilophosaurus moved very quickly, they had extremely sharp teeth and claws.
8. Carnotaurus

Carnotaurus lived about 70 million years ago during the late Cretaceous period. This carnivorous dinosaur originated in South America, weighed about 2.9 tons and had a pair of sharp horns on its head.
With a moving speed of up to 50km/h, and a tail said to be the strongest in the dinosaur family, Carnotaurus is one of the most "annoying" predators that ever existed on Earth.
9. Charcharodontosaurus

This is one of the "giant" carnivorous dinosaurs on Earth, about 13m tall, weighing about 10-15 tons. With teeth like shark teeth, the bites of Charcharodontosaurus caused prey to die from blood loss.
Charcharodontosaurus lived about 93 - 100 million years ago. They often fought and fought with many other large and dangerous dinosaurs such as Spinosaurus.
10. Spinosaurus

Spinosaurus was the first land dinosaur known to have lived in water, and was also the largest carnivorous dinosaur that ever lived, weighing 20 tons and standing nearly 15 meters tall, about 3 meters longer than the largest tyrannosaurus rex ever discovered.

Spinosaurus had a snout with sharp teeth like a crocodile. Its hind legs were short and strong, acting like paddles and had many similarities to ancient whales. Its forelimbs were very strong with curved, knife-like claws, used to stab or tear the flesh of its prey. With characteristics of both T-Rex, crocodiles and whales, it could have adapted to life underwater to hunt sharks.
11. Velociraptor

Although much smaller than the T. rex, the Velociraptor was made famous by the "Jurassic Park" and "Jurassic World" movie series. These carnivorous dinosaurs hunted in packs, using their speed and sharp claws to take down prey much larger than themselves.
These fearsome carnivorous dinosaurs may have also had feathers, which made them agile, much like modern birds of prey. The Velociraptor's intelligence and cooperative hunting style put them high on the list of the most dangerous carnivorous dinosaurs.
