Where to Find Terracotta in Creative Mode

Stone blocks may make sense from a security standpoint, but they’re boring to look at. Instead, opt for terracotta blocks the next time you build a home in Minecraft. They offer the same blast protection as stone blocks and they’re more aesthetically pleasing, too.

Check out how to find terracotta on Minecraft across different platforms:

Windows 10

You can find terracotta in the Creative Inventory menu under Building Blocks (versions 0.14.1 – 1.1.3) or Construction (versions 1.2 – 1.16.20) in the Windows 10 version of the game.

Alternatively, you can also find different colored terracotta blocks while exploring the world. Biomes to check out for color terracotta blocks include:

• Badlands: uncolored, white, light grey, yellow, orange, red, yellow
• Desert pyramids: orange, blue
• Underwater ruins (warm climate): light blue

If you have a furnace at home, you can also craft terracotta blocks from clay. Follow the recipe below to get started:

1. Launch the furnace menu.
   
2. Add a fuel source to the lower box.
   
3. Place a clay block in the box above the fuel box.
   
4. Watch the flame animation as your furnace turns the clay to terracotta. It can take a few minutes.
   
5. When you see the terracotta block appear in the output box, move it to your inventory.
   
6. Repeat the process to craft more blocks.

Nintendo

The easiest way to get terracotta blocks in creative mode is to use the Creative Inventory menu. On the Nintendo Switch, you can find terracotta under Building Blocks (1.04 – 1.11) or Construction (1.5.0 – 1.16.20).

If you’re feeling more adventurous, you can go out and find terracotta naturally. Head over to the nearest badlands biomes to find terracotta colors like light grey, red, orange, and yellow. You can also find an abundance of uncolored terracotta blocks in these biomes if that’s your preference.

When you’re feeling like a swim, head over to some warm water underwater ruins for unique light blue terracotta blocks or to desert pyramids for vivid oranges and blues.

If you have a lot of clay blocks and don’t want to mine terracotta blocks yourself, you can always DIY it. Take a look at the steps below to make your own blocks:

1. Open the furnace menu.
2. Place a fuel source, like coal, into the lower box.
3. Add a clay block to the box above the fuel source.
4. Wait for the flames animation to finish turning the block into terracotta.
5. Take the terracotta block from the output box and move it to your inventory.

PlayStation

When you’re in Creative Mode in Minecraft, one of the easiest ways to find terracotta is in the Creative Inventory menu. Simply open the menu and grab the blocks you need:

• Building Blocks tab: PS3 (versions 1.26 – 1.76), PS4 (versions 1.26 – 1.91)
• Construction: PS4 (versions 1.14.0 – 1.16.20)

Do you have a furnace and a large supply of clay blocks and fuel sources? If you do, you can craft terracotta, too. Check out the process below:

1. Open the furnace menu.
   
2. Place a clay block in the top box above the flame outlines.
   
3. Place a fuel source in the box underneath the clay block.
   
4. Wait for the flame animation to complete. It may take a while so don’t close your menu.
   
5. Move the completed terracotta block into your inventory to use.
   
6. Complete the process again if necessary.

You may also find terracotta as you adventure across different biomes. They’re especially abundant in badlands, but you can find them nearly anywhere. Keep an eye out for uniquely colored terracotta blocks, too. You may see a variety of colors as you travel the map from calming blues to fiery reds and oranges. Keep that pickaxe in good repair and you’ll have plentiful material to build or upgrade your home.

Xbox

Who has time to look for resources when you have an artistic vision to fulfill? Check out the Creative Inventory menu for all the resources you’ll need to build the home or dungeon of your dreams. Terracotta blocks are there, too. Check out the Building Blocks tab for versions CU23 – CU43 on Xbox One or the Construction section for versions 1.2.5 – 1.16.20.

If you want a hands-on approach, you can always craft terracotta blocks at your furnace. Use one clay block and a heating source to get one block of terracotta. Just remember that you need to wait until the furnace finishes “cooking” the terracotta block and that can take a while.

Naturally occurring terracotta blocks are also available across different biomes, but they’re the most prevalent in badlands biomes.

PE

Minecraft Pocket Edition (PE) Creative Mode is a great place to try out new designs, especially since you have all the resources right at your fingertips. Terracotta blocks are one of the resources listed in the Creative Inventory menu. Check in the Construction section for PE versions 1.2 – 1.16.20. If you have an older version (0.14.1 – 1.1.3) of Minecraft PE, you can check in the Building Blocks section.

Alternatively, you can use a furnace to craft terracotta blocks. You just need a clay block, fuel source, and of course, a furnace. It may be a little time-consuming, though, as each block takes a few minutes to “bake.”

If you’d rather go out into the Minecraft world and find naturally occurring terracotta, you can find them in different biomes.

Java

Finding terracotta blocks in Minecraft’s Creative Mode is as simple in Java as it is on other platforms. You can find it in the Creative Inventory menu under “Building Blocks.” The terracotta location is the same for Java versions 1.8 through 1.17 on both PC and Mac.

Alternatively, you can use a furnace to “bake” terracotta blocks from clay ones. It’s a little more time-consuming, but it is an option for players who prefer to put a little work into crafting their resources.

You may come across terracotta blocks in different biomes as well but finding them naturally is a little tricky. These blocks are available everywhere. However, finding an abundance of them to mine for a resource is another story. Try searching for badlands biomes if you’d rather mine resources than using a furnace or Creative Inventory menu. They’re a bit more abundant in these biome types.

How to Craft Terracotta in Minecraft Survival Mode

In Survival Mode, you need to craft terracotta blocks with a furnace. Fortunately, you only need two ingredients: a clay block and a fuel source. Once you have both resources, follow the steps below:

1. Open the furnace menu.
2. Insert the fuel source in the bottom box below the flame outlines.
3. Place the clay block in the box above the fuel source.
4. Wait for the flames to go out, signifying it’s finished “baking.”
5. Remove the terracotta block from the output box and place it in your inventory.

Keep in mind that the “baking” process takes a few minutes to complete. You must wait until it’s finished and move your completed terracotta block into your inventory before closing the menu. The furnace doesn’t “bake” in the background.

If you exit out of the menu or forget to remove the completed terracotta block, you’ll have to complete the process all over again.

How to Find Terracotta Naturally in Minecraft

You can find terracotta naturally across a wide variety of biomes. For example, you can find orange and blue blocks in desert pyramids or light blue ones in warm water ruins. However, if you’re looking for a biome with a huge amount of terracotta blocks, you’ll want to head over to a badlands biome. They’re not as plentiful, but if you find one, these biomes have an abundance of natural resources to mine.

How do you change the color of terracotta?

Dyeing terracotta blocks is relatively easy. To start, you just need eight terracotta blocks and a dye. Once you have these two resources, it’s time to head to your crafting table and follow the steps below:

1. Open the crafting table menu.

2. Place all eight blocks along the perimeter of the grid.

3. Place the dye in the middle square.

4. Remove your eight newly colored blocks and place them in your inventory.

Just remember that you can only dye terracotta blocks in batches of eight. Choose your color wisely, too. Once you dye the blocks at the crafting table, you can’t remove the dye or change it.
