  • 28 KB is an approximate limit as it includes the message itself (text, image links, etc.), @-mentions, the number of connectors and the response.

2. Messaging and Chat

2.1. Chat – chat

Users participating in conversations that are part of a chat list in Teams must have an Exchange Online mailbox for administrators to search for chat conversations. If a chat participant doesn't have an Exchange Online mailbox, the administrator won't be able to search or pause chat conversations.

Teams Chat works on the backend of Microsoft Exchange, so Exchange message limits will apply to Teams chat.

(3)28 KB is a relative limit as it includes the message itself (text, image links, etc.), @-mentions and responses.

2.1. Send or forward one channel email

If a user wants to send an email to a channel in Teams, they'll use the channel's email address . When an email is part of a channel, anyone in the group can reply to it. Here are some limitations that apply to sending or forwarding email to a channel in Microsoft Teams

6. Storage

Each team in Microsoft Teams has a team site in SharePoint Online, and each channel in a team has a folder in the default team site's document library. Files shared in a conversation are automatically added to the document library, and file permissions and security preferences set up in SharePoint are automatically mapped to Microsoft Teams.

If you don't enable SharePoint Online for your organization, Microsoft Teams users cannot share files in Teams. Users in private chat also can't share files because OneDrive for Business (which is tied to the SharePoint license) is required for that functionality.

Since document files are stored in SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business document libraries, all configurations that have been set up for your organization will be followed.

Because Teams works on the SharePoint Online Backend for file sharing, SharePoint restrictions apply to files in Teams.

Below are the storage limits that apply to SharePoint Online.
