Discord is a great way to communicate with your teammates while playing multiplayer games. Through text or audio notifications, you can exchange information with everyone in your group on the fly. However, there are times when Discord’s notification features do more to distract than help. As such, knowing how to turn off those pesky popups are a great help to regular Discord users.

In the following article, we’ll show you how to disable Discord notifications for all the platforms that it’s available on, along with other useful Discord tips and tricks.

How to Disable Discord Notifications on a Windows PC

If you’re using the Discord desktop app on Windows, you can disable the notification messages by doing one of the following:

Muting Server Notifications

If you wish to stop getting notifications from the entire Discord server you’re part of, here’s how it’s done:

1. Right-click on the name of a server that you want to mute. Server icons are on the menu on the left side of the Discord screen.
   
2. From the dropdown list click on Notification Settings.
   
3. You’ll be presented with several options to choose from that can dictate how mute works on the server. These options are:
   1. Mute Server – Choosing this option will stop all notifications for the entire server. You’ll be given the choice to stop notifications for 15 minutes, an hour, eight hours, 24 hours, or until mute is manually turned off.
      
   2. Server Notifications Settings – These options allow you to choose which kinds of notifications you’ll get alerted to. All messages will inform you of every message on the server. @mentions will only notify you of messages that you’ve been specifically mentioned in. Choosing nothing blocks everything.
      
   3. Suppress @everyone and @here – Choosing this option will mute notifications that have the @everyone or @here command. Using @everyone sends a notification to all members of the current server. Using @here sends a notification to all members of the current server that are also online at the time.
      
   4. Suppress All role @mentions – This setting will mute all notifications from people that specifically mentions those with roles like @admin or @mod that have been set for the server.
      
   5. Mobile Push Notifications – If this is toggled on, then any mentions that you allow will also be sent to your mobile device if you’ve connected your phone to your Discord profile.
      
   6. Notification Overrides – This option allows you to set exceptions to any mute settings that you use for the server. If, for example, you have mute everything on, setting notification override for text channels will still allow that channel to give you popups.
      

Single Channel or Multiple Channel Mute

If you want to mute individual channels instead of the entire server, this can also be done through the main menu. To do so, follow the steps below:

1. On the channel list, right-click on the name of a channel you wish to mute.
   
2. Hover over Mute Channel.
   
3. From the dropdown list, choose the length of time that you want it muted. Like the server notification settings, the choices are 15 minutes, one hour, eight hours, 24 hours, or until you manually turn it on.
   

If you wish to mute an entire category of channels like all Text Channels, or Audio channels, follow these steps:

1. On the channel list, right-click on the category title you wish to mute.
2. Hover over Mute Category.
   
3. Choose the length of time that you wish the category muted.
   

Specific User Mute

On occasion, you may want to mute specific users rather than entire servers or channels. Discord also has features that allow this:

1. On the menu to the right, right-click on a specific user’s profile icon.
   
2. From the popup list, select mute. This user will remain muted until you manually turn the mute toggle back off.
   

Windows Notification Settings

If you wish to turn off notifications without having to tinker with the Discord app settings, use Window’s own notification commands:

On Windows 10

1. On the Windows Taskbar, click on the Start Icon.
   
2. From the menu that appears, select Settings.
   
3. From the icon list, choose System.
   
4. From the menu on the left, click on Notifications & actions.
   
5. Under the Notifications section, toggle ‘Get notifications from apps and other senders’ off.
   

On Windows 8

1. Open the Windows Charms menu by clicking on the windows icon, or pressing Windows + C on the keyboard.
2. Find and click Settings.
3. Choose and click Change PC Settings.
4. Under the PC Settings section, click on Notifications.
5. Under the Notifications section, toggle off ‘Show app notifications’.

On Windows 7

1. Click on the Start Button on the taskbar.
2. Choose Control Panel from the list.
3. Choose and click System and Security.
4. Look for Action Center, and toggle it off.

How to Disable Discord Notifications on a Mac

IF you’re using Discord on a Mac computer, all of the Discord commands to mute notifications are pretty much the same. If you wish to adjust your notification settings, refer to the instructions as detailed in the Windows section above.

If you wish to turn off notifications on the Mac itself, it can be done by following these steps:

To Pause Notifications

1. Open the Apple Menu.
   
2. From the list, choose System Preferences.
   
3. Click on Notifications.
   
4. Under Notifications Preferences, click on Do Not Disturb. Choose the duration that you wish.
   

To Disable Notifications

1. Open the Apple Menu.
   
2. From the list, select System Preferences.
   
3. Choose Notifications.
   
4. Under Notifications Preferences, find the Discord App. Toggle off Allow Notifications.
   
5. Notifications will be disabled until you manually re-enable them again.

How to Disable Discord Notifications on Android

If you’re using the Discord App for a mobile, then the notification options can be edited by doing the following:

Mute the Entire Server

1. On your Discord app, tap on the name of a server icon on the left side of the screen.
   
2. Tap on the menu icon. It’s the three dots symbol.
   
3. Tap on the bell icon to open Notifications Settings.
   
4. The options as given will be the same as the ones on the desktop version.
   

Mute Specific Channels

1. Tap and hold on the name of a channel name.
   
2. Tap on the menu icon. It’s the three dots symbol.
   
3. Tap on the bell icon to open Notifications Settings.
   
4. From the menu, tap on Mute Channel.
   
5. Select the duration that you want the channel to be muted.
   
6. You can also tap on Notification settings and choose which messages provide alerts. It can be all messages, @mentions, or nothing.

Alternative Chat Mute Method

1. Open a channel by clicking on its name.
   
2. Swipe to the left until you see the member’s list.
   
3. Tap on the bell icon.
   
4. Choose the duration for the mute. Alternatively, you can also tap on Notification Settings and choose alerts that you wish enabled.

Mute Specific Users

There’s no specific command to mute users on the mobile version, though you can still block them if you wish. Here’s how it’s done:

1. When you’re on a server, swipe left until you see the list of members.
   
2. Tap on the profile icon of a member.
   
3. On the popup menu, tap on the three dots on the upper right side.
   
4. Tap on Block.
   
5. To remove the block, repeat steps one to three, then tap on Unblock.

Disabling Mobile Notifications

Most mobile devices will have their own notification settings that you can toggle off to disable any notifications. This is the usual way to do it:

1. Open your phone’s general system icons menu and tap on Settings.
   
2. From the Settings menu, look for Notifications, or Apps & Notifications.
   
3. Find Discord on the list of apps and tap on it.
   
4. Toggle your selected settings off.
   

How to Disable Discord Notifications on an iPhone

The Discord Mobile app isn’t platform-dependent, so all the instructions detailed on the Android version applies to iPhones as well. To disable notifications on your iOS device, refer to the steps given on Android above. To turn off notifications on the iPhone itself, follow these instructions:

1. On your iOS device, launch the Setting app.
   
2. Scroll through the list then find and tap on Notifications.
   
3. Find Discord from the list of apps.
   
4. Choose the kinds of notifications that you want to turn off.
   

How to Disable Discord Email Notifications

Discord will send your registered email messages alerting you of any specific DM’s that you may receive when you’re offline. While these are rather handy, they can also be a bit annoying, especially if you’re trying to reduce the number of emails that you have in your inbox. Luckily, these can also be turned off by doing the following:

1. Open the email notification sent by Discord.
2. On the email message itself find the turn off notifications link. These are located in the body of the message and at the bottom of the email.
3. Once you confirm that you don’t want to receive email notifications, you will no longer do so.
