While many users lament the loss of Google Play Music and its replacement by YouTube Music, the platform’s popularity speaks for itself. However, the new app comes with a slightly less intuitive queueing system. If you’re trying to remove songs from the Youtube Music queue en masse, you might be running into a few roadblocks.

We’re here to help. Here’s what you need to know about clearing out the entire queue in YouTube Music on all supported devices.

How to Clear the Queue in YouTube Music on a PC

Although YouTube Music was primarily designed for mobile devices, it is hugely popular as a replacement for a music streaming app for home audio systems. Due to the PC platform’s slightly different UI design, manipulating the queue in YouTube Music is relatively easy.

If you want to remove all songs from the queue at once, here’s what you need to do:

1. Open YouTube Music and go to the “Home” tab.
   
2. Press “F5” on the keyboard to reload the page. For some reason, this way of refreshing the page removes all songs from the queue.
   
3. Alternatively, remove everything in the browser’s URL after “music.youtube.com” and reload the page by pressing “Enter.”
   

Whether this is an unintended “feature” of the platform remains to be seen, but this is one of the best workarounds for clearing the entire queue from songs. Changing the queue by moving playlists will start piling on more suggested pieces into the line (that you can’t really control).

If refreshing the page doesn’t work, you can create a new, empty playlist, then start playing that playlist instead of the queue. This feature most likely works by overwriting some of the cookies that hold your queue on the device.

Alternatively, you can remove all the YouTube cookies, since that is how the app tracks which songs are in your queue:

1. Go to YouTube Music.
   
2. In the browser menu, select “More tools,” then “Developer Options.” The shortcut is “Ctrl+Shift + I” for most browsers.
   
3. Go to the “Application” tab.
   
4. In the list on the left, expand the “Cookies” tab.
   
5. Right-click on the cookies, then select “Clear.”
   
6. Click on the “X” in the corner to close the Developer Options.
   
7. Refresh the page (“F5”).
   

This should work in clearing your queue from the profile, but it also might log you out of the platform and forget your location settings. On the plus side, you will most likely get an entirely new set of recommendations the next time you log into the app.

If you want to keep some songs in the queue, you will need to remove the others one by one. Here’s what you can do:

1. Select the upper arrow icon on the bottom right of the page.
   
2. Right-click on any entry in the queue.
   
3. Select “Remove from queue.”
   
4. Repeat the process for every song.

Another important thing to note is that adding a song directly from the search menu will populate the queue with other seemingly random songs. YouTube generates the queue through its suggestion algorithm, but there’s no way to disable it.

Therefore, it’s better to search for songs and go to their respective albums to add tracks to your playlist. Otherwise, you’ll end up with songs across artists and albums and have to clear the queue repeatedly to fix it.

How to Clear the Queue in YoutTube Music on an Android

The Android app for YouTube Music is typically in-line with the most recent updates brought to the web browser version, with the iOS app lagging behind it. However, unlike in the web app, there actually is a feature to clear the queue.

Here’s what you need to do:

1. Open the app.
   
2. Select your profile and your queue to start playing music from it.
   
3. Minimize the “Playing Now” screen by dragging the corner. The queue should now appear as a single tab on the bottom listing the currently playing track.
   
4. Swipe the bar down. For some users, swiping the bar to the left will achieve the same or better results.

The method outlined above is an undocumented way to clear the queue, and we won’t know how long it stays that way until Google updates the app and mentions it. For now, though, it seems to work well enough.

Alternatively, you can load a new empty playlist. The playlist will overwrite the previous queue, and you’ll start from scratch.

Since the app has a similar music search function to the web platform, you’ll do well to go to albums rather than adding songs directly from search results. This way, you can avoid or minimize the suggestion feature’s somewhat annoying function of adding more songs into your queue automatically.

How to Clear the Queue in YouTube Music on an iPhone

The iOS app for YouTube Music isn’t always up-to-date with the web browser and Android version features. However, the function for removing the queue is still there, even if it isn’t properly documented on the app or supported by UI notifications. The process is similar to the Android method; here’s what you’ll need to do:

1. Open the YouTube Music app.
   
2. Navigate to your queue and start playing the tracks in it.
   
3. Use the minimize button (or tap) on the “Playing Now” menu to push it to the bottom of the screen. The app will display the queue in a single tab, listing only the currently-played track with navigation options.
   
4. Swipe the “Playing Now” bar down. Some users might get the same result by swiping the bar to the left instead of down, depending on their iOS version.

This method of closing the queue works only most of the time but is the most reliable option we’ve found so far. Considering Google doesn’t seem to update the app with any official queue clearing button, the workaround is relatively straightforward. The alternative would be to remove all the songs one at a time, which might take a while.

Some users have also reported that the auto-suggest feature will keep adding more songs after removing an individual track from the queue.

Can You Disable Auto Queue in YouTube Music?

One of the less specific features YouTube Music has for queues is the auto-suggestion mode. Whenever you start playing a song without an existing queue, the piece will get added to the queue. However, the auto-suggest feature will keep adding songs to the line that are in some way relevant to the first track, but there’s no way to control it.

Unfortunately, we haven’t found a way to disable this feature and allow you to add only a single song reliably. The best method has been to add a song from an album rather than the search results. Doing it this way seems to prioritize album songs rather than seemingly random tracks.

By removing the queue, you can start anew and add more tracks that you might find more interesting to keep your day fun. While this option is relatively unknown, the platform doesn’t seem to announce it properly to users. So, we hope you manage to make it work.
