Device Links
Mobile gaming has taken a step forward. Blockbuster titles that were previously available only on computers have become available on mobile devices, and PUBG can be counted among the greatest of such titles.
If you’re a fan of this battle royal phenomenon that’s taken the gaming world by storm, you’re probably excited to experience it on your phone. However, going over to touchscreen controls might be a rough transition.
The ideal solution would be to link a controller to your phone and have the best of both worlds. In this article, we’ll explain how to do just that.
How to Play PUBG Mobile With a Controller on an Android Phone
To keep the battleground fair, PUBG Mobile doesn’t officially support full controller use. If you have a Bluetooth controller, you can only use it for in-game movement. Other actions won’t be mapped to corresponding buttons.
But that’s only the case with vanilla settings. There’s a workaround that will allow you to use your controller in full capacity when playing PUBG Mobile.
You’ll need to download a keymapper app to your phone. These apps are used to bind game controls to controller buttons in games that otherwise don’t have support for controllers.
Until recently, the most popular option was the Octopus app, which was available through the Google Play Store for free. However, this app has recently discontinued support for PUBG Mobile.
Luckily, there’s another option, although this one requires payment. It’s called Panda Gamepad Pro.
To use this keymapper app to enable the controller on PUBG Mobile, follow these steps:
- Download and install Panda Gamepad Pro.
- Connect your controller to your Android device.
- Launch Panda Gamepad Pro.
- Go through the app’s setup process to configure controls.
- Launch PUBG Mobile from the Panda Gamepad Pro app.
There are two things you should take note of when taking this approach.
First, PUBG Mobile will detect that you’re using third-party software to play the game. This means you’ll be able to join matches only with players who are using emulators. In other words, everyone in your game will either be playing using this method or via PC.
Second, the button configuration will be active only when launching the game through the keymapper app. If you launch PUBG Mobile on its own, the game will revert to touchscreen controls.
How to Play PUBG Mobile With a Controller on an iPhone
Since PUBG Mobile doesn’t offer official support for controllers, you’ll need to use a keymapper app.
These apps configure controller buttons to match in-game actions, which is useful for games such as PUBG Mobile that don’t support controllers.
Many keymapper apps on the App Store are outdated, meaning they might not work properly with PUBG Mobile. However, there’s one that’s still up to date: ShootingPlus.
Here’s how to set up the app to enable playing PUBG Mobile with a controller on your iPhone:
- Download ShootingPlus from the App Store and install the app.
- Connect the controller to your iPhone.
- Launch ShootingPlus.
- Follow the instructions to set up the commands.
- Use the ShootingPlus app to launch PUBG Mobile.
This method will allow you to play PUBG Mobile with a controller on your iPhone. However, you’ll only be able to do so if you launch the game via ShootingPlus. If you start PUBG Mobile on its own, the keybinds you’ve created won’t apply.
It’s worth mentioning that the game will detect your setup as an emulator, and you’ll only have access to matches with players who use a controller or play on a computer. The game does this to avoid players with controllers having an unfair advantage over touchscreen players.
How to Play PUBG Mobile With a Controller on a PC
Playing PUBG on your mobile device can be an excellent experience. However, the game could be made more enjoyable if played on a larger screen, such as your computer monitor.
If you’ve already made some progress in your PUBG Mobile account and don’t feel like switching to the desktop version, you can easily transition to a PC. In fact, that will make using a controller quite straightforward.
To play PUBG Mobile on your PC, you’ll need an emulator. You can easily find and download one of the popular options such as Bluestacks.
The great thing about Android emulators is that they usually come with controller compatibility. This will be the case with Bluestacks, too.
Once you install the emulator, you’ll need to connect to your Google Play account to access your game. Then, you can either use native settings or remap the controls to your liking, and you’ll be ready to go.
Bear in mind that playing via an emulator will place you in matches with players who are playing the same way. You won’t be able to join games with mobile players who are using touchscreen commands.
