Blocking Someone in Skype
You can block a Skype contact regardless of your call and chat history. However, if the contact you’d like to block is a part of a group, you’ll still be able to see their messages in that group chat. The only way to stop receiving their messages is to remove them from the group.
If an unknown account attempts to call you, you can block the number directly from the chat. Just select the Block option followed by the number link to quickly resolve the issue.
How to Block Someone in Skype on an iPhone
Blocking certain people on iPhone to avoid unwanted voice calls, FaceTime calls, and text messages is simple and hassle-free. Luckily, the same can be said for blocking Skype contacts.
The first step is to locate the contact you’d like to block. If they’ve called you or sent you messages recently, the easiest way to find their name is through the Chats tab in the Skype app. Alternatively, you can scroll through your Contacts list until their name pops up on your screen.
From there, follow these steps to prevent any future Skype interactions:
- Long-press the contact’s name.
- Select the “View profile” option.
- Scroll all the way down on their profile window.
- Tap the red “Block contact” button.
- Confirm the action by pressing “Block” in the pop-up window.
If the person in question has been sending you disturbing messages, you can also choose to report them for abuse. Here’s what to do:
- Repeat steps 1-4.
- Toggle the “Report abuse from this person” button to on.
- Select the reason for your report.
- Tap the “Block and Report” button.
After you’ve blocked the contact, they’ll disappear from your contact list.
How to Block Someone in Skype on an Android
If you use the Skype app on your Android device, the blocking process will depend on your version. Older Android versions have a somewhat simplified process, allowing you to block a Skype contact directly from your Contacts tab. The newer versions added a step or two into the mix but kept the process pretty straightforward.
If you own a device with Android 5.1 or older, follow these steps to prevent an unwanted individual from contacting you via Skype:
- Tap the “Contacts” tab.
- Locate the person you’d like to block.
- Tap and hold the person’s name.
- Select the “Block contact” option.
- Confirm your choice by tapping “Block” again.
Here’s what to do for newer Android versions:
- Find the contact you’d like to block under the “Chats” or the “Contacts” tabs.
- Tap and hold their name.
- Choose the “View profile” option from the pop-up menu.
- Scroll to the bottom of the “Profile” page.
- Press the “Block” contact button.
- Tap “Block” again in the pop-up window.
Regardless of your Android version, you can also choose to report contacts that crossed the line. Simply enable the toggle button next to the Report abuse from this person option before confirming the action. Naturally, you’ll be asked to provide a reason for your report.
Once you hit the Block button again, that individual will be removed from your contact list and your chats.
How to Block Someone in Skype on an Windows
Incessant Skype calls from an unknown or unwanted individual can become a serious nuisance, especially if you work from home. Fortunately, the Windows Skype app offers several methods to restore your peace and quiet.
Here’s how to block a Skype contact on your Windows PC:
- Click on your “Chats” or “Contacts” tab, depending on the last time the person contacted you.
- Scroll down until you locate their name.
- Right-click on their tab.
- Select the “View profile” option.
Once the Profile pop-up window appears, you have two options to reach the Block option:
- Scroll to the bottom of the window.
- Click on the pencil icon in the upper-right corner.
Regardless of your chosen path, the Block contact option will be the last on the list, highlighted in red.
Click on the option and proceed as follows:
- Press the “Block” option if you only want to remove the person from your Skype contacts.
- Enable the slider next to the “Report abuse from this person” option if you’d also like to report them.
If you choose the second option, you’ll be asked to provide a reason. Select one of the following:
- Spam
- Fraud
- Child sexual exploitation or abuse
- Terrorism or violent extremism
- Hate speech
- Imminent harm to person or property
- Non-consensual intimate imagery
After selecting the reason, finish the process by clicking on the Block and report button.
How to Block Someone on Skype Mac
If you don’t want to hear from someone on Skype while working or having fun on your Mac, you can block them in a few simple steps.
- Locate the unwelcome contact in your “Chats” or “Contacts” tab.
- Right-click on their name.
- Select the “View profile” option.
- Scroll until you reach the end of the “Profile” window.
- Click on the “Block contact” button.
- Optionally, toggle on the “Report abuse from this person” and check the reason.
- Confirm the action in the pop-up window.
You will no longer see the blocked contact in your chats or among your Skype contacts.
How to Block Someone in Skype on an iPad
Saying goodbye to someone who doesn’t know how to play nice on Skype will probably take you less time than they needed to write their unwanted messages.
Here’s how to block a contact using the Skype app for iPad:
- Find the person you’d like to block in your “Chats” or “Contacts” lists.
- Tap and hold their name.
- Press the “View profile” option.
- Scroll down to the bottom.
- Select the “Block contact” button.
- Tap “Block” again in the pop-up window to finalize the process.
If you feel blocking isn’t enough, you can also report that person for abuse by enabling the appropriate button after completing Step 5. To report a person for abuse, you’ll have to check what they’ve done from the listed options.
Will the Person Know That They Have Been Blocked?
Skype won’t notify the person that you’ve blocked your actions. That being said, there are several ways for them to tell if they’ve been blocked, although not with 100% certainty. The following signs can lead them to believe they’ve been blocked:
- A question mark next to your Skype name
- Messages not being delivered
- A missing profile picture
