With all the new crafting loot available in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, your inventory can fill up quite fast. Even with the improved default storage space from the previous game (New Leaf), you’ll most certainly go over the 20 item limit in your pocket space throughout the game.
Fortunately, the game allows you to get more pocket storage space. This article will teach you how to get more storage and other storage tips you might want to explore later.
At the start of the game, your pocket can hold 20 items (I know, those are pretty large pockets). If you want to upgrade that capacity to 30 items, you’ll need to purchase a Pocket Organization Guide. Follow these steps to do so:
- Go into the Resident Services Tent (or the Building if you’ve already upgraded it).
- Head over to the Nook Stop terminal, otherwise known as “that machine in the corner.”
- When you use the machine, you’ll get the store to purchase new items for Nook Miles.
- The Pocket Organization Guide is on the menu, and it costs 5000 Miles.
- After you purchase the item, your pocket storage will automatically increase to 30 items.
While the price may look steep, it’s undoubtedly well worth the investment.
Second Inventory Upgrade – Ultimate Pocket Stuffing Guide
When you upgrade the Resident Services Tent to a full building, you’ll have more purchase options available in your Nook Stop. The new Ultimate Pocket Stuffing Guide (the “Guide” part can be omitted from the shop menu due to length) costs 8000 Nook Miles. Purchasing the Pocket Stuffing Guide increases your pocket inventory slots by an additional 10 items, to a new maximum of 40 items. As with the Pocket Organization Guide, this is immediately done after the purchase.
Unfortunately, there are no further options to increase your pocket space storage. However, while you can only hold 40 items in your pocket, more options are available to optimize your storage elsewhere.
Pocket Optimization Tips
- You can stack your crafting items of the same type (like iron nuggets) inside your pocket storage. Hold A on an item to move it around the inventory and stack it by moving it over another item. You can free up some space by having stacks of things you need at hand.
- Another excellent option for storage is your house. As you play the game, you’ll get more opportunities to take loans and upgrade your house. As you do this, your home will be able to store more and more items. You can’t keep turnips and grown trees in the house, so you’ll need to find other ways to store those items.
- If you’re out of options, you can put items on the ground. Most items won’t mind staying outside, and your island will have plenty of free areas to drop them off and come back to later when you need them.
- Don’t forget to sell any extra items you don’t need or that you want to get rid of. If the Nook’s Cranny isn’t working at the moment, leave the items nearby for later.
You can optimize your storage habits to carry more crafting options with you at all times, while items you intend to sell can be kept close to the shop for convenience. If you properly manage your pocket space, you’ll be able to hold plenty of items, but restrictions are a part of the game’s charm. Managing your inventory is also a part of the challenge, so make sure to improve your skills as you play.
