In many cases, this will be NTFS, a format most Android devices don’t recognize. If you’re not sure what file system is used by your external hard drive, you can check the manual that came with the device or follow these steps:

1. Connect your external hard drive to a computer.
   
2. Locate the hard drive, right-click on it, and press “Properties.”
   
3. Check what is written next to “File system.”
