Chrome 64-bit or Chrome 32-bit: Download the version you want, for Windows 10 or older

If you download Google Chrome from places other than its official website, you might download the wrong version, with bundled extras which you might not want. For example, you may have Windows 10 on 64-bit and install Chrome on 32-bit. Also, you may use an older version of Windows like Windows XP or Windows Vista, and you want a Google Chrome version that still works on that operating system. Download Chrome 64-bit

If you need to download Google Chrome 64-bit, it is best that you go to its official website. There, click or tap the Download Chrome button.

A prompt is shown, with details about what you are about to download. First, look for the entry that tells you for what operating system Chrome is going to be downloaded:

• if you are using a 64-bit version of Windows, you should see Windows 10/8.1/8/7 64-bit
• if you are using a 32-bit version of Windows, you should see Windows 10/8.1/8/7 32-bit

If Google recommends that you download the 64-bit version, it is all good: this is the version you want. Check whether you want to send usage statistics and crash reports to Google automatically, and press "Accept and Install." Then, you get to download a ChromeSetup.exe file, which you need to run, to install Google Chrome 64-bit.

If Google recommends that you download the 32-bit version, but you want the 64-bit version, it is unfortunate, but you cannot install it on your PC or device. Why is that, you may wonder? The answer is that 32-bit operating systems cannot run 64-bit apps. Only the opposite is true. However, that does not mean that you cannot download the installer for the 64-bit version of Google Chrome. Who knows: maybe you want to install it on another PC.

If Google recommends the 32-bit version, but you want the 64-bit version, close this prompt and scroll down to the footer. There, in the Chrome Family section, click or tap "Other Platforms."

If you want a different version of Chrome than what Google recommends, close the Download Chrome for Windows prompt shown in the previous sections. Then, scroll down the official page to the bottom. There, look for the Chrome Family column of options. Click or tap "Other Platforms."

Now you see a list with different download options. You can choose to download Chrome 32-bit or 64-bit, Chrome for older versions of Windows, like Windows XP and Windows Vista, or Chrome for non-Microsoft operating systems such as Android, iOS, Linux, and Mac OS.

Click or tap the version that you want to download, and save the Chrome setup file on your computer. You can then use it to install the Chrome version that you want, where you want.

How to see what version of Google Chrome you have installed

If you want to double check that you installed the version of Google Chrome that you wanted, you can do so. Start Google Chrome and click or tap the "Customize and control Google Chrome" button on the top-right corner. It looks like three vertical dots. In the menu that is displayed, go to Help and then to "About Google Chrome."
